Mother Knows Best! Single Mom Debra Messing Has Strict Rules For Teenage Son

Will & Grace star Debra Messing isn’t messing around when it comes to setting the rules for her teenage son, RadarOnline.com has learned.
“I’m a very committed and hands-on mother,” the actress revealed in OK! Magazine while discussing her relationship with 14-year-old Roman. “I’m protective of him.”
And that is especially true for any teenagers most wanted rite of passage: their own phone.
“When I finally gave him a phone, I told him, ‘This is not your phone. This is my phone and if you want the privilege of using it, then you need to know that I will pick it up at any time and look at all of your texts and emails and search your history,’” she confessed.
Messing, 50, is raising the boy as a single mom. Roman’s father is her ex-husband, producer Daniel Zelman. The two divorced in 2016.
As for dropping the hammer on her son, Messing said so far, it’s working out well.
“For me, that’s what I felt comfortable with,” she said. “Whether we like it or not, our children are communicating with each other through devices. You cannot monitor your child 24/7. So you have to trust them and put in boundaries that you think make sense. And then you just have to pray that they’re safe.”
