‘My 600-Lb Life’ Star L.B. Bonner Struggled With Leg Amputation Before Suicide

L.B. Bonner took his own life on August 2 after struggling with depression and alcoholism. A friend of the My 600-Lb Life star is revealing exclusively to RadarOnline.com what could’ve contributed to Bonner’s tragic suicide.
Bonner, 30, was located in a park ditch with a gunshot wound to the head. The Lexington County Coroner’s Report revealed the mechanism of death was a laceration of the brain.
Bonner’s right leg was amputated in a car accident in 2013. After the incident, he turned to food and alcohol, reaching 650 pounds before shedding the weight through diet, exercise and lap band surgery.
A friend close to Bonner explained how the amputation took a toll on him.
“I knew him when I lived in South Carolina,” she said. “He was a bouncer at night clubs we used to go to. Also, both of us are amputees. Both of us are also or were also members of the support group where you can speak to other issues that you’re going through.”
The friend, who lost touch with Bonner in recent years, continued, “A lot of amputees think that they can’t do everything they used to do or get depressed or feel like someone would never want them. I’ve been lucky. I’ve always had the mentality that if someone tells me I can’t do something then I’m going to do it anyway with or without two legs. I think he tried to have that mentality, but with everything else he was dealing with…”
In March, Bonner started a GoFundMe page with a goal of $7,500 to pay for a new leg.
He told RadarOnline.com at the time, “My insurance won’t cover a new leg and I’ve gotten to the point where just walking is becoming very painful, let alone going to the gym and working out hard like I was before.”
He explained how a new leg could cost up to $4,000.
"I’ve been steadily losing weight and I’ve knocked out some huge milestones,” he explained. “But this has been a huge setback and has kind of sidelined me from high-intensity workouts I want to do.”
