Ryan Lochte Banned 14 Months After Breaking Anti-Doping Rules

Troubled swimmer Ryan Lochte has been banned from competition until July 2019 after receiving an IV injection in May, which is banned under anti-doping rules.
The 12-time Olympic medalist, and Dancing With The Stars loser, posted a photo of himself on social media May 24 receiving the infusion. The picture has since been taken down.
U.S. officials say Lochte, 33, was not using a banned substance, but under anti-doping rules, athletes typically cannot receive IVs unless related to a hospitalization or through an exemption.
"Lochte received an intravenous infusion of permitted substances at an infusion clinic," the USADA announcement of the suspension said.
The 14-month ban, retroactive to May 24 is his second in less than two years, following his 10-month suspension for his bad behavior during a drunken incident at the 2016 Olympics in Rio.
The ban means Lochte will miss this week's national championships in Irvine, Calif. He has been training with hopes of making the Olympic team in 2020.
