Lyle & Erik Menendez ‘Doing Well’ Under Less Security Since April Prison Reunion

Lyle and Erik Menendez saw each other for the first time in 22 years after living in separate prisons on April 4. Family members of the convicted murderers exclusively revealed to RadarOnline.com how the brothers have adjusted to being in the same facility.

“They’re doing well,” their cousin Diane Hernandez exclusively told RadarOnline.com. “They’re busy making themselves useful and finding their new positions in the prison work wise.”

Hernandez explained how while their cells are not near each other, they “see each other all the time.”

“They used to be at level three, which has more security,” she explained. “Now they’ve been moved to level two. That’s working out well for them. It’s not heavily guarded. It’s more lenient.”

The Lyle Menendez Facebook page, which is run by family members, told RadarOnline.com that things “are great.”

Erik, 47, was transferred to Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility, where Lyle, 50, has been housed, in February 2018. They saw each other for the first time on April 4.

The brothers have been serving two consecutive life prison sentences without the possibility of parole for the August 20, 1989 murders of their parents Jose and Kitty Menendez. The brothers used shotguns purchased days before the murders to kill their wealthy parents. Their defense argued the murders were self-defense after years of sexual, physical and emotional abuse.

Hernandez previously told RadarOnline.com in April of the reunion, “It’s extremely exciting. They’re doing very well now that Lyle has moved to where Erik is. They hugged, cried, laughed. It was all of that.”

Hernandez believes her cousins are “not guilty of first-degree murder” and “truly feared for their lives” while living with their parents.

Although they do not have the possibility of parole, she believes there is “always hope” they could be released one day.
