Tom’s Triumph! Hanks’ Drug Addicted Son Celebrates Huge Recovery Milestone

Talk about a turnaround! Tom Hanks' once troubled and drug addicted son is celebrating two years of sobriety.

As RadarOnline.com has reported, Chet Hanks has a long history of drug abuse, and even admitted in 2015 that not only was he a user, he was a pusher as well.

“A couple months ago I was selling coke and doing coke until I couldn’t even snort it up my nose anymore because it was so clogged,” Chet, now 27, said at the time. “I even smoked crack.”

He also opened up about how he had fathered a secret love child after a drug fueled one-night stand. Chet credits the birth of his daughter with giving him the final push to enter rehab, which he did in 2015.

“I just really had to take a look at myself and my life and the way s**t was going and all the crazy stupid s**t I was doing,” he said at the time. “And just finally admit to myself that it wasn’t working.”

Now, two years sober, Chet is a working actor, much like his Oscar-winning dad, and has just wrapped a recurring role as Blake on Empire this season.

“I wouldn’t trade it for anything,” he tells PEOPLE, “because all I did was subtract a few elements from my life, and just by subtracting a few simple things, so much has been added that I don’t even think about going back.”

Chet, who once tried to make it as a rapper, under the pseudonym Chet Haze, is now realizing how to live his life out from under the shadow of his famous father and mother, Rita Wilson.

“Anyone who was born in some kind of shadow of success of their father or mother can share this journey of a growing process. Not by denying who you are, but by embracing who you are,” he told PEOPLE. “This is who I am, and I’m not running away from it.”
