RadarOnline.com has exclusively learned that even though Jim Carrey's going through hell with accusations he mistreated his late girlfriend, there's one ex-lover ready to stand up for him — his former fiancée, Renee Zellweger!

"Renee's horrified at what's being said about Jim right now and can't believe the allegations," an insider revealed.

As RadarOnline.com reported, Carrey's Irish ex-girlfriend, Cathriona White, committed suicide last year.

Following White passing away, her estranged husband, Mark Burton, and mother, Brigid Sweetman, sued Carrey for wrongful death.

They claimed the actor gave White the sexually transmitted diseases herpes and chlamydia before she killed herself — charges Carrey refuted.

One reason for Zellweger's belief that there's more to the story than meets the eye is because Carrey, 54, "was nothing but a total gentleman to her during their engagement," noted the insider of the relationship that only ended "because she was too commitment-phobic."

"Renee's already reached out to him," continued the insider of 47-year-old Zellweger, who has been in a solid relationship with musician Doyle Bramhall II for years.

As a result of her concern, "Renee and Jim are back in touch regularly now," said the insider. "She's trying to help him rebuild his confidence."

"He's taken a real beating and she believes that he's being blamed for something he didn't do."

While Zellweger is willing to go to bat for Carrey, surprisingly he's requested she hold off, at least for now.

"Jim doesn't want her entangled in his troubles," explained the insider, "but he's very appreciative of her support."
