Texas Sen. Ted Cruz has been hiding a shocking suicide incident from voters in the GOP presidential primaries.

RadarOnline.com has learned that Cruz's wife, Heidi, had police alarmed over her bizarre behavior near a busy highway at 10 p.m. on Aug. 22, 2005.

According to Austin cops, a passerby saw Heidi sitting "with her head in her hands" on the grass near an expressway. She told an officer she "had walked away from her home" after having "two sips of a margarita an hour earlier with dinner."

After talking with her husband, the officer said: "I believed that…she was a danger to herself," noting that she "was sitting 10 feet away from busy traffic."

Ted's campaign has claimed that Heidi, 43, "experienced a brief bout of depression."

McKay Coppins wrote in the new book The Wilderness that Ted, 45, drove Heidi to give up her top job in George W. Bush's administration so they could move to Texas and he could launch his political career.
