Lamar Odom may be coping with some dark demons as he recovers from his near-fatal drug overdose last month, but his estranged wife Khloe Kardashian may relate more than fans realize.
In her new tell-all book, Strong Looks Better Naked, the E! reality star, 31, opens up about her dark past of boozing and partying following the 2003 death of her father, Robert Kardashian Sr.
"I was 19 at the time, and to say I didn't handle his death well is an understatement," she confesses. "I didn't turn to drugs, but I certainly drowned my sorrows in drink, and the partying soon got out of hand. I was underage and behaving recklessly in clubs and at private parties."
"During this period, I became aware of how easy it is to become a binge drinker…I see pictures of myself at the time and I was so bloated that I look like I'm 45 years old!"
Refusing to face the pain of her father's tragic passing following his battle with cancer, she pulled away from "concerned" family members, and surrounded herself with party pals.
"It was pretty much, 'Don't worry. We can get you into this club.' Or, 'Here, have one more drink for the road,'" she recalls.
She credits sister Kourtney, 35, with pulling her out of the downward spiral by giving her a managerial job at Dash, the family's first women's boutique.
But if her "level headed" big sis didn't get involved, she could have landed in a treatment facility.
"I didn't end up in rehab…because Kourtney put her foot down and forced me to take control of my life, but I probably came close," she admits.
Khloe claims she now deals with stress by working out and journaling.
She certainly has her fair share of stress. As RadarOnline.com has reported, the star's estranged husband, 35, nearly died after a three-day drug bender in a Nevada hospital last month. She spent weeks by his side, and is now fighting with his family over medical decisions and her choice to spend time with boyfriend James Harden.
