Grieving Melissa Rivers Leaves Manhattan Home, Makes Funeral Plans For Late Mother Joan

Melissa Rivers stepped out of her 5th Avenue in Manhattan early Friday, putting on a brave face as she coped with the death of her mother Joan a day before, and prepared for the comedy legend’s funeral at the Frank E. Campbell Funeral Chapel.
The 46-year-old’s expressions indicated she was in deep grief, understandably, but she trudged on like a trooper in making final plans for her mother’s funeral and burial.
The late comic’s funeral service is slated for Sunday Manhattan’s Temple Emanu-El, as Jewish tradition (Joan and her late husband Edgar were both Jewish) dictates a burial soon after the person’s death. The week of mourning that follows is referred to as “sitting Shiva."
