Michael Strahan, the unlikely candidate whose impressively replaced legendary Regis Philbin on ABC's Live!, is about to do some moonlighting.
The ex-New York Giants defensive standout is bringing his positive vibes to the network's morning centerpiece, Good Morning America, in an effort to keep ratings afloat with the recent defections of regulars Josh Elliott and Sam Champion.
Strahan, 42, will lend his services to GMA in the show's first hour, as well as continuing his duties alongside Kelly Ripa on Live!, insiders told the NY Daily News.
“They’re on the verge of signing the deal -- it could be announced this week,” the insider said, adding that the network's addition of the popular jock-turned-broadcaster predated Elliot's unforeseen departure to NBC Sports this week.
The nascent Pro Football Hall of Famer made an excellent impression when he did a few guest spots during the time Robin Roberts was on sick leave.
“They’ve been in love with him since he subbed for Robin,” the source told the paper.
