Auditions were held in Los Angeles on Wednesday night for the upcoming season of The X Factor, but things took an uncomfortable turn when judge Demi Lovato's late father was mentioned on stage, and RadarOnline.com has all the exclusive details.

A show insider tells RadarOnline.com that with the recent passing of Demi's dad and given her estranged relationship with him, contestants were specifically told not to mention him in any way on stage — but one contestant clearly missed the memo.

"One kid got up on stage to sing and when the judges asked him about his motivation for singing he mentioned a family member that had recently died," an eyewitness exclusively told RadarOnline.com.

"He then voiced his condolences to Demi for just losing her father and she didn't even respond. All the judges kind of froze and told him to sing. Instead of critiquing him or discussing his performance, all the judges just said 'no' and they basically rushed him off the stage."

According to the eyewitness, it was clear that Demi was visibly uncomfortable with the contestant bringing up her father and his passing.

"Demi had been really upbeat and funny the entire night of auditions," the insider said.

"But her mood completely changed after that contestant, which is understandable. That poor kid didn't have a chance once he brought up Demi's dad."

Along with Simon Cowell, Kelly Rowland and Paulina Rubio, auditions continue in Los Angeles on Thursday and Friday night for The X Factor.
