The strange saga of Amanda Bynes took another twist Thursday, as a Hollywood publicist tweeted that the troubled starlet was under the influence of drugs -- and in dire need of police intervention.

"I just spoke to @AmandaBynes and she is soooo messed up on drugs and please @NY_POLICE find her and help her!" the publicist Jonathan Jaxson, who has past represented Kim Kardashian, tweeted. "I don't know her address!

He later wrote, "If trying to help someone you feel is in trouble is a crime, then there is a problem. A cry for help is just that! I did what I KNEW to do!"

Jenny McCarthy then got in on the act, tweeting that "police are at @AmandaBynes house.

"I hope they get her help. Enough of this circus. She needs help," McCarthy wrote, later adding, "It came from a publicist but if no one can back it up it could be wrong. So start digging."

As we previously reported, the What I Like About You beauty late Wednesday tweeted a pair of topless self-pictures, the latest in a string of meltdown-like acts from the former Nickelodeon star.

Bynes -- when asked if she has any addictions -- told this week's In Touch she doesn't indulge in booze or pot, and that any funny-looking cigarettes she's been snapped with contain only tobacco.
