He may have been snubbed for an Oscar this year – but it wasn’t the first time Brad Pitt has experienced rejection in his life!
RadarOnline.com has obtained an adorable previously unseen snap of the Hollywood hunk, which shows him with his childhood basketball team the Cherokee Rejects.
A determined young Brad, resplendent with a blonde bowl cut, set up the underdog team after he failed to make it into the first squad at Cherokee Middle School, in Springfield, Missouri, back in 1977.
Brad, then aged 14, came up with the tongue-in-cheek name and even hired his dad Bill to coach them.
Recalling being on Brad’s team, his former school friend Aaron Stull said: “We were the Cherokee Rejects. We didn’t make the final cut for the eighth grade basketball team, so the five of us just decided to be the Cherokee Rejects.
“It was Brad’s idea and he got his dad Bill to be our coach at the time.
“Brad came up with the name – Cherokee Rejects. I don’t think we really cared too much about losing out on the school team, we just thought it was funny.”
The team wore a special uniform with the word ‘Rejects’ emblazoned on the front of it.
And Aaron recalled how Brad’s determination not to be a loser paid off with a trophy.
He said: “His dad coached us and we used to practice at one of the churches his family used to go to and play our games at the local Boy’s Club.
“We even got a trophy, but sadly I can’t remember what it was for.”
