From Bjork’s infamous swan dress and Sharon Stone’s Gap t-shirt to Cher’s nearly naked Bob Mackie creation, the red carpet of the Academy Awards has been home to some of the most unconventional style statements over the years.

In honor of the 2012 Academy Awards, RadarOnline.com is taking a trip down red carpet memory lane, bringing you the most eccentric and out there fashions to ever hit the annual awards show.

In 1990, Kim Basinger disastrously designed her own ensemble, which resulted in a confusing mess of dress. The blindingly white concoction featured a way-too-full skirt, missing sections of the bodice, (you really have to see it to believe it!) and was part strapless and part tuxedo-style.

Even Brad Pitt’s lovers have encountered blunders at the Oscars! In 1990, his current partner Angelina Jolie may have scooped up the Best Supporting Actress award, but she certainly wasn’t a Best Dressed contender looking like she was a member of The Addams Family in a totally goth Versace ensemble with jet black hair.

In 2002, Brad’s former flame, Gwyneth Paltrow, turned heads when she hit the carpet oddly outfitted in a goth Alexander McQueen mesh gown.

Demi Moore was definitely a main attraction in 1986, decadently representing the bad fashion of the era in an outfit that she helped design. Pairing bike shorts with an Edwardian style corset top and a detachable peacock looking skirt, she looked more like a Vegas Showgirl than an A-list actress.
