Eddie Murphy is coming to the Oscars!
The comedian and movie star has signed-up to host the 84th Annual Academy Awards on February 26 and he said he is “honored” to take on the oft-criticized job.
“I am enormously honored to join the great list of past Academy Award hosts from Hope and Carson to Crystal, Martin and Goldberg, among others,” he said on Tuesday after the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences signed off on the Murphy hosting with Brett Ratner producing the show.
“I’m looking forward to working with Brett and Don (Mishcer) on creating a show that is enjoyable for both the fans at home and for the audience at the Kodak Theatre as we all come together to celebrate and recognize the great film contributions and collaborations from the past year.”
Murphy will be trading places with this year’s hosts James Franco and Anne Hathaway, who were panned for their lackluster performance. No word yet if Shrek and Fiona will be there to cheer him on!
