The box office went ape over Rise of the Planet of the Apes. The action-fantasy literally pulverized Ryan Reynolds and Jason Bateman in The Change-Up.
Apes, with James Franco in the lead human role, took in an estimated $54 million at the box office, well above expectations.
Opening opposite, Ryan Reynolds and Jason Bateman didn't stand a chance. Their poorly-reviewed The Change-Up finished fourth, took in only $13.5 million and looks like it will whimper away.
