The cast of Jersey Shore was among the many stars at Sunday’s MTV Video Music award, but one member of the gang was noticeably absent -- Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino. The reason? He says Hurricane Irene.

MTV flew the cast by private jet to Los Angeles early Saturday to make sure they’d be at the show. Vinny Guadagnino told MTV news: “MTV did whatever they could to get us out of here. We wouldn’t miss it for the world.”

For some reason, Mike didn’t take the flight, but he did send a tweet apologizing for missing the show. The Sitch tweeted: “I wish I could be at the VMA’s but all the flights were grounded because of the hurricane….thanks again for always having my back! For all the Haters who are mad by what really happened, keep hating!”

RadarOnline.com’s Candace Smith hit the black carpet to ask the stars what they thought of MTV chartering a private jet for the cast.

Actress Ashley Rickards from MTV’s Awkward was caught off guard and jokingly wondered why she wasn’t flown in on a private jet, even though she resides in L.A. Said Rickards: “I didn’t get that!”.

Although Shanell from Lil’s Wayne’s Young Money said she should have been on a jet, producer Swiss Beatz said they deserved it “with all those ratings”.

Teen Wolf’s Holland Roden was excited that GTL (aka gym, tan and laundry) had officially landed in California, while comedic actor Nick Swardson was comforted by this information.

R&B singer Luke James is from New Orleans and knows his storms, so he was just happy everyone arrived safely.

MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew Poreotics were not impressed with the private jet because they arrived in two Hyundais.

Comic Andrew Dice Clay said he doesn’t know what the Jersey Shore is about, but he said it’s entertaining.  Andrew didn’t need a jet because he “lives in the neighborhood”.

Candace was snubbed by the Jersey Shore cast leading her to say even though they flew in on a private jet, she hopes they leave on a Greyhound bus.
