Jeff "Ox" Kargola died Friday during a grueling desert motocross race in Mexico.
Among the very best of pro FMX riders, Kargola was in the second day of the Desert Assassins' 2011 Rip to the Tip race, 1,376 miles down the Baja Peninsula.
The 27-year-old died of head injuries at a hospital in San Felipe, Mexico, ESPN is reporting.
Ox, from San Clemente, Ca., was an "all or nothing kind of guy," said his friend Jay Schweitzer. "But he could also handle a bike better than just about anybody in the world."
