According to Bonaventura, Rizzo was heading to an appearance at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut when the limo -- driving 75 miles per hour  -- hit the guard rail.

"I was on the phone with him one second earlier and just as we hung up the crash occurred.

"The Limo hit 3 or 4 other cars and then the guard rail. Mike was rushed to the hospital."

Rizzo, a native of New York City, had just returned to the east coast after appearing at the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles where he was nominated for Best Remix non-Classical 2011 for Sergio Mendes "Orpheus" (Quiet Carnival).

Due to the impact of the accident, he can't lift his arms above his head.

Rizzo is back at home safely with his wife and two sons.

Due to deep tissue damage they're still running more tests."
