A beaming Shepherd couldn't hide her excitement as she officially announced her engagement to L.A.-based TV writer Lamar Sally, and flashed her sparkling diamond engagement ring.
Shepherd, 43, told her co-hosts that Sally won over not only her, but also her 5-year-old son Jeffrey.
"For Christmas, he had a present for Jeffrey -- it was a game," she said. "And he said to Jeffrey, 'Can I marry your mom?' And Jeffrey's like, 'Yeah, yeah, yeah, I want to play with my game!'
The talk show host/30 Rock actress also said he proposed in traditional fashion, saying, "...he got on one knee, and he said, 'Mrs. Shepherd, would you be my wife?' And I said 'yeah!'"
Shepherd said the pair were introduced by her pal Niecy Nash. She also said she would take her new husband's last name in her personal life, but that in her professional life, she would still be known as Sherri Shepherd.
The couple plan to marry in August in her hometown of Chicago, and will live in New York.
Barbara Walters then surprised Shepherd by saying she would throw her a bridal shower.
