After a whirlwind romance, engagement and pregnancy, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes waited 19 months before they made it official at their swanky Italian nuptials at Odescalchi Castle. It wasn’t surprising that Holmes turned to Tom’s old pal Giorgio Armani to design her a princess-worthy wedding gown, which was embellished in Swarovski crystals.

Kate Middleton may be sporting Princess Diana’s sapphire and diamond engagement ring on her left hand, but it is doubtful she will borrow the former Princess’ wedding gown. Though Lady Diana Spencer definitely had the most talked about gown of the 1980’s, trading vows with Prince Charles in an enormous pouf-sleeved stunner, which was embellished with about 10,000 pearls, the dress does not seem to mesh with Kate’s far less formal fashion identity.
