Avatar, The Hurt Locker Lead Field As Oscar Nominations Announced

The 82nd Academy Awards nominations were announced at the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills on Tuesday, as Avatar and The Hurt Locker tied for the day's high with nine nominations apiece.
The expanded list of best picture nominees are: Avatar, The Blind Side, District 9, An Education, , Inglourious Basterds, Precious, A Serious Man, Up, and Up In The Air.
Nominees for best actor went to: Jeff Bridges, Crazy Heart; George Clooney, Up in the Air; Colin Firth, A Single Man; Morgan Freeman, Invictus; and Jeremy Renner, The Hurt Locker.
Best actress candidates included Sandra Bullock, The Blind Side; Helen Mirren, The Last Station; Carey Mulligan, An Education; Gabourey Sidibe, Precious; and Meryl Streep, Julie & Julia.

The candidates for best supporting actress are: Penelope Cruz, Nine; Vera Farmiga, Up in the Air; Maggie Gyllenhaal, Crazy Heart; Anna Kendrick, Up in the Air; and newcomer Mo'Nique for Precious.
Best supporting actor candidates are: Matt Damon, Invictus; Woody Harrelson, The Messenger; Christopher Plummer, The Last Station; Stanley Tucci, The Lovely Bones; and Christoph Waltz, Inglourious Basterds.
Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin will host the ceremonies, which emanate from the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood March 7. ABC will broadcast the event live.
