David Beckham & Tom Cruise: Inside Their “Bromance”

Soccer star David Beckham was so impressed with superstar Tom Cruise that he named his youngest son’s after the Mission Impossible action hero.

Although it is spelled with a ‘z’, Beckham’s youngest son Cruz was given his moniker after his parents met Mr Cruise for the first time.

The revelation comes in a new book The Beckham Experiment by Grant Wahl that lift’s the lid on the relationship between two of the most famous men in the world.

‘I must admit when Victoria and I met Tom, I remember turning around to Victoria and saying, “Cruise is a great name, but we could spell it different,” Beckham reveals. “And also, living in Spain, Cruz is spelled the way it is in Spanish. So that’s why we got it.”

The LA Galaxy star told Wahl that he often turns to Cruise when it comes to making most of his major decisions.

The pair first met in 2003 and their ‘bromance’ developed after the film star threw a lavish bash for Beckham and his famous wife Victoria Beckham when they first arrived in Los Angeles.

The Beckham’s then enlisted Cruise’s agents Creative Artists to help promote them Stateside while also hiring PR firm Rogers and Cowan on the star’s advice too.

In addition when the Beckhams bought a house in Los Angeles it was located just five minutes away from the Beverly Hills home that Cruise and his wife Katie Holmes owned at the time.

Beckham also confessed to Wahl that he talked with Cruise several times a week and takes his advice on a variety of matters including whether or not to join the LA Galaxy in his record breaking deal.

However, the two superstars did have a parting of the ways when it came getting involved in Scientology although Beckham claims this was never a major issue.

“It’s something I respect, because Tom’s explained to me and Victoria what it’s all about,” revealed Beckham. “But he never turned around and said, ‘That is what you should be doing’ because he would never do that. “He and Katie have their beliefs …. but me and Victoria have also got our own.”

And with Beckham about to return to Los Angeles to resume playing for the LA Galaxy after his hiatus with Italian giants AC Milan the two stars will be able to spend some quality time with one another over the summer.
