Ricki Lake's ex-husband Christian Evans has died after a battle with bipolar depression, the actress revealed last night in a touching social media post.
But prior to his death, the 45-year-old jewelry designer revealed his suicidal intentions in a series of bizarre, troubling emails to a friend, RadarOnline.com can exclusively reveal.
In a October 18, 2016 letter viewed by Radar, Evans wrote, "I was less than 72 hours away from taking my life and overdosing on pharmaceutical medications." He had just been released from a California psychiatric hospital.
The father of one also claimed to be completely broke after receiving treatment.
"I had to sell most of my belongings to pay for a treatment center for bipolar and suicidal depression," said Evans, who has a child from a marriage prior to Lake. "I'm in awful financial shape. Homeless in a custom Range Rover."
Lake, 48, who was married to Evans for three years until their divorce was finalized in 2015 https://radaronline.com/celebrity-news/ricki-lake-finalizes-divorce-from-ex-husband-christian-evans/, revealed in a heart-wrenching Instagram post on Valentine's Day that her "soul mate" had died.
"The world didn't understand this man, but I did. He succumbed to his life long struggle with bipolar disorder," she wrote. "For anyone who has ever lost a family member or friend to mental illness, my heart goes out to you."
As Radar previously reported, Lake's marriage to Evans was plagued by turmoil.
After their 2014 separation, sources told Radar that Evans intended to go after "triple" of the sum he was granted in their prenup.
He even threatened to write a tell-all about tumultuous relationship, insiders said.
The couple eventually settled a year later.
