One Direction Breaking Up — Band's Hiatus Now Official Split
Jan. 13 2016, Published 12:57 p.m. ET
Despite denying rumors that their extended hiatus was a band breakup, sources say One Direction has decided to go their separate ways for good.
After losing member Zayn Malik, 23, in March 2015 and wrapping up their first foursome tour in October, the popular boy bad chose "not to renew their recording contract," a source told Us Weekly.
"The 1D thing just ran its course. They'll remain friends, but they are exhausted and want solo careers," the insider added.
As RadarOnline.com previously reported, the pop group had been considering a reality show deal to find Malik's replacement last spring, but opted to continue on as a smaller group in the end.
At the time of their hiatus announcement, sources say there was no ill will between band members.
"They fully deserve to have at least a year to work on their own projects," a source said of their then-temporary break. "There is absolutely no bad blood between them and they are all 100 per cent behind the decision."
