Kim Kardashian got a lot of heat for her apparently shameless selfie opp with Hillary Clinton last night. But RadarOnline.com has learned it was actually Clinton who requested the encounter!

"Hillary used Kim for publicity and for social media attention and it worked," a source close to the situation tells RadarOnline.com. "Hillary is a very smart woman and knew that if anyone could get her face out there last night amid the Republican debate it was Kim Kardashian,.

The photo was taken last night, as Clinton held a fundraiser in Los Angeles. And ultimately, it did not go off as planned since Kardashian misspelled the word "President" when she first posted the photo to her Twitter.

As RadarOnline.com previously reported, Kardashian brought momager Kris Jenner along to oversee the well-orchestrated publicity stunt. According to the source, Jenner also played a role by "brokering a deal with Hillary's people so that this could happen."

Clinton clearly enjoyed the attention as her selfie with Kardashian is the only photo that she posted on her Instagram from the fundraiser.
