Presidential Election 2016
John Kasich will be dropping out of the GOP presidential race today, meaning Donald Trump has all but clinched the Republican nomination for the presidency.
Once Ted Cruz dropped out of the Republican race Tuesday night after a crushing loss in the Indiana primary, Kasich remained the final official contender to Trump.
But with his staggering lead, Trump easily knocked out Kasich, who will be suspending his campaign on Wednesday.
Kasich was facing pressure to drop out of the race as early as March, when he was trailing well behind Trump and Cruz. Eventually Kasich's role turned into a "spoiler" candidate, someone who could block Trump from gaining the 1,237 delegates needed to win the nomination. He even joined forces with Cruz to fight the New York billionaire, but Kasich and Cruz soon realized their plan wasn't working.
Kasich said on Tuesday night he would continue fighting, but after Cruz announced the end to his campaign and Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus called Trump the "presumptive nominee", Kasich REPORTEDLY decided to end his run.
Next up for Trump? Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders!
