Demi Lovato & Wilder Valderrama have split.

In matching statements posted to their social media accounts, Lovato, 23, and Valderrama, 36, broke the news to their fans.

"After almost 6 loving and wonderful years together, we have decided to end our relationship," they wrote. "This was an incredibly difficult decision for both of us, but we have realized more than anything that we are better as best friends. We will always be supportive of one another," the statement continued. "Thank you to everyone who has offered us kindness and support over the years. With only love, Wilmer & Demi."

But where did their love go wrong? According to sources, the couple lived very different lives, both carrying conflicting work schedules, and differing views on sobriety. “Wilmer is not sober, so her friends sometimes worry that he could lead her back to dangerous old habits,” a source told RadarOnline.com in 2014 amid rumors of a split. “But Wilmer is not an addict and respects her sobriety very much. Demi is like a rock and is very dedicated to remaining sober.”
