Elizabeth Smart wed in Hawaii Saturday afternoon. The groom is Matthew Gilmour, 22, from Aberdeen, Scotland. The two met a year ago in Paris where they were both assigned doing Mormon missionary work.
“To be in one of her favorite places with her family has made for a dream wedding. It’s been an absolutely beautiful day,” her spokesperson, Chris Thomas, told People. “She is positively radiant, and Matthew couldn’t be happier.”
Smart made worldwide headlines in 2002, when at age 14, she was kidnapped from her family home. She was rescued from her captors, who’d subjected her to sexual assault almost daily, nine months later.
Smart, now a college senior, and Gilmour, wed in front of a small group of family and close friends at the Laie Hawaii Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on the island of Oahu.
They’re keeping their honeymoon plans top secret.
Congratulations to the happy couple!
