Two weeks after her ex-husband's mysterious death, Ricki Lake is coming clean about Christian Evans' demons — and the horrific truth about his passing.
In a shocking new interview, the former talk show host, 48, reveals her former love, who suffered from bipolar disorder, committed suicide by gunshot in mid-February.
"I'm in disbelief," she tells People's latest issue. "I have some bouts of peace, but it's hard to swallow that this was supposed to happen."
Two days after sending his sister a suicide note, Evans was discovered dead in his car with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was just 45.
"I knew right then that he was gone. Everybody thought he was missing, but I knew," she said of receiving news of the letter. "The struggle was just too much for him. He did the best he could."
As RadarOnline.com exclusively reported, Evans threatened to end his life in a shocking suicide letter to a friend last fall.
"I had to sell most of my belongings to pay for a treatment center for bipolar and suicidal depression," the late jewelry designer wrote on October 18. "I'm in awful financial shape. Homeless in a custom Range Rover."
In her tell-all interview, Lake admits her ex's sudden manic episodes led to their nasty 2014 split.
"It was like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde," she confesses of Evans' moods. "He thought he could fly. He thought he could cute cancer with his hands. It was horrific — he jut wasn't the person I had been with for four years."

"He was giving my money away. He thought he was a God."
Lake also confirms RadarOnline.com's report that she and Evans reconciled after she filed divorce papers.
"He wasn't stable…But I was still in love with him, so there was something romantic about it," she explains. "I wanted to save him."
She says she last saw him just three days before he took his own life.
In his last text to her, he allegedly wrote, "Good night, I love you angel."
Lake plans to scatter his ashes on their favorite beach in Spain. (The couple got engaged in Ibiza in 2011.)
"I think he's at peace now, but I still feel him around me," she claims. "We had a truly unconditional love."
