Tarek El Moussa Admits He and Ex Christina Lead Separate Lives After Divorce
Dec. 19 2017, Updated 12:59 p.m. ET
They may appear united on the small screen, but Flip or Flop exes Tarek and Christina El Moussa are currently leading very separate lives when cameras aren’t rolling, the HGTV father of two admitted to RadarOnline.com in an exclusive interview.
“It’s been a year and a half since the separation, and now it’s a different dynamic,” Tarek exclusively told RadarOnline.com. “We had a family. I had my wife and kids. It’s one of those things where I can’t change the past.”
Tarek recently spilled the details of his “very painful” divorce from Christina that played out in front of the world in 2016. RadarOnline.com exclusively revealed last week that Tarek will be spending Christmas with their kids Taylor, 7, and Braydon, 2, this year.
While Tarek says his kids are “the most important thing in my world,” he admitted his relationship with Christina is more distant.
“It’s still pretty fresh,” Tarek told RadarOnline.com of the split. “We’re just kind of living our own lives right now.”
The HGTV handyman said the bitter split was the most difficult hurdle he’s overcome in the last two years.
“The hardest thing I had to overcome was being on my own again and going through a divorce,” Tarek said. “It was very traumatic. I’m still healing.”
Tarek confirmed he’s currently single – and insisted that status probably won’t change anytime soon.
“I couldn’t even really imagine opening up right now,” Tarek said at the thought of dating. “To be honest, I don’t even have the time for a relationship!”
For when he does meet the right woman, Tarek claimed he set a rule for introducing his little ones to a future love interest.
“I won’t bring a girl around my kids unless I think it’s something that could be serious. With that said, I would wait at least six months before that introduction to make sure it’s something that would last.”
That may be a slight dig at his ex, Christina, who did not shy away from cameras when it came to stepping out in public with her exes, most notably, businessman Doug Spedding and pro hockey player Nate Thompson. In October, RadarOnline.com reported Christina’s nasty breakup from Spedding, who returned to rehab to deal with addiction issues.
Although their marriage is over, Tarek says he and Christina are continuing to shoot season seven of their hit show Flip or Flop, and they’re looking ahead at a potential season eight.
He stressed to RadarOnline.com that what matters the most to him are his kids.
“Going through something traumatic like a divorce makes you re-evaluate who you are, and who you want to be, and the type of man you want to be,” Tarek said. “I realize that all I want to be is the absolute best father possible because I know every single thing I do will be carried with them for the rest of their lives.”
