"Son of Sam" killer David Berkowitz is on his deathbed after being admitted to the hospital in January for ongoing heart issues, RadarOnline.com can exclusively reveal.
Berkowitz, 64, was transferred from Shawangunk Correctional Facility in Wallkill, New York to Albany Medical Center in December to undergo heart surgery.
A Public Information Officer for the prison told RadarOnline.com that Berkowitz, 64, was "transferred to an outside hospital in January."
The murderer's attorney Mark Heller confirmed he was admitted for "ongoing cardiac issues."
A source exclusively told RadarOnline.com that he's "on his last legs," as doctors have been unable to bring him out of critical condition.
“It doesn’t look good at all,” a source told RadarOnline.com. “He’s been suffering with cardiac problems for a long time, and he’s not bouncing back from his procedure. He doesn’t have long. Death is expected imminently."
Berkowitz was arrested on August 10, 1977 after a New York City shooting spree from 1976 to 1977 left six people dead and seven injured. He told police his neighbor’s dog ordered him to kill the innocent victims.
Berkowitz is currently serving six consecutive life sentences.
New York Post was the first to report on Berkowitz's December surgery.
