Savannah & Hoda Have ‘No Idea’ If Matt Lauer Will Ever Make TV Return
April 13 2018, Updated 3:52 p.m. ET
Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie don’t think Matt Lauer is planning a TV comeback after his scandalous Today show firing!
The co-anchors spoke out about their former coworker this Thursday night, when they were honored at The Hollywood Reporter’s 35 Most Powerful People in Media Celebration.
Guthrie, 46, told ET at the event that she had “no idea” if Lauer, 60, was planning a comeback. “I just know that he's really focused on his family right now and I think that's right,” she stated.
While a source exclusively told RadarOnline.com that the disgraced star was meeting with executives and planning a career comeback with CNN, it seems his pals don’t think it’ll happen!
Kotb, 53, agreed with Guthrie during their interview, saying: “Yeah, I think that is really where his heart is at this moment — his children and just working on that. So, I think that work probably isn't in the forefront of his mind.”
RadarOnline.com readers know Kotb took Lauer’s position ad Guthrie’s Today co-anchor when he was let go from NBC. His 2017 firing came after he was accused of sexual harassment by a collection of women.
During their talk with the publication Guthrie and Kotb also admitted that their feelings for Lauer “are complicated” because they worked with him for so many years and developed a friendship.
“You know, it's just like if you heard news about someone you cared about, you would probably go, ‘Wait, what is going on?’ I think it does take time even today to process what happened and we try to move forward and we're in this new place and we're just trying to do our best,” said Kotb.
“I think it was so shocking and hard but we're just trying to move forward and try to do it with integrity and honesty and transparency and friendship to everyone involved. I think that's all we can do,” added Guthrie.
The beloved co-anchors also recalled the moment they found out about Lauer’s sex scandal, telling ET that they let out “a lot of tears” and had a “moment of prayer” before they were able to confront their viewers.
Readers know Lauer has stayed away from the spotlight since his explosive scandal. After losing his job, wife, family and integrity, the tragic former TV star cut off all contact with his loved one and hid himself inside his NYC home.
