'Today' War! Kathie Lee Pushing For Regis To Replace Hoda — But Gig Will Go To Jenna!

The morning war inside The TODAY Show is heating up!

With Hoda Kotb replacing Matt Lauer after he got the boot for inappropriate sexual behavior accusations, Katie Lee Gifford needs a new co-host — and RadarOnline.com exclusively learned from an insider that she wants her old friend Regis Philbin to fill the spot and not Jenna Bush.

Jenna looks so young next to Kathie Lee that internally they are calling it the mother and daughter hour,” a network source snitched to RadarOnline.com about the addition to the 10am hour on NBC. “Kathie Lee isn’t laughing.”

However, the hierarchy at NBC is still in place, and Gifford is on the outs with the bigwigs who made the decision.

“The big problem is that Jenna is best friends with Savannah,” the insider told RadarOnline.com. “And now that Savannah has pushed out everyone that was loyal to Matt Lauer and replaced them with producers that are loyal to her, Kathie Lee has no power.”

The big move is already in motion, the source said.

“Jenna will be announced as Hoda’s permanent replacement in the hour with Kathie Lee after the Olympics. But they need to be careful, once they announce Jenna as a co-host they better start looking to someone to replace Kathy Lee because she will be out!”
