Leah's A Good Mom! Kailyn Lowry Defends Troubled Costar Messer

It's no secret that times are tough for Leah Messer. Amid her ex-husband Corey Simms' claims she's a monster mom, the Teen Mom 2 star, 23, lost custody of her 5-year-old twins Ali and Aleeah following a nasty court battle.
But costar and friend Kailyn Lowry is coming to Messer's defense.
"I think taking care of yourself as a person and a mother first is always important," Lowry told RadarOnline.com in an exclusive interview. "And if she has to go through some bumps in the road to get into a healthy place, then nobody should knock her for it."
Lowry is cheering for Messer, who spent a month in rehab this past summer, to get better and get her life back on track.
While Lowry hasn't spoken to Messer in recent weeks, she admittedly stays in touch with her castmate's ex-husband #2, Jeremy Calvert.
To avoid any controversies, Lowry doesn't ask Calvert about Messer's situation.
"I want to stay out of that as much as possible because I feel like it's such a touchy subject and I don't want to step on any toes or anything," she said. "We just talk more of like work and stuff like that and the kids."
Now that the twins are living with their father, Simms, and his wife, Miranda, five days a week, Lowry has a bit of advice for the couple as well on their expanding family.
"I wish them the best and just patience," she said of the couple, who also welcomed daughter Remington last weekend. "I never even had twins, but I know that kids take patience. They know that."
Meanwhile, Lowry has been busy writing a children's book about love with her son Isaac, 5.
"Isaac asked me what love was, so I was kind of thrown off and didn't know what to say," she explained about the writing process. "So I started collecting kids quotes from him and my nieces and nephews and got stuff to put into the book to describe what love was."
Lowry's book, Love is Bubblegum, will be on sale November 17.
