This Monday, March 11, the show host was spotted grocery shopping at Gristedes supermarket while wearing a giant white down coat and no makeup. We must all come together to respond to this crisis of addiction and substance abuse," Williams, 54, said in a press release this Tuesday, March 12, announcing her new substance abuse hotline.
After years of battling a heavy cocaine addiction, the show host is helping addicts and their families recover and heal. "Everyone is at risk from the inner cities to more affluent communities. My family and I are very proud to partner with T.R.U.S.T. to get people the help that they so desperately need, especially if they or their families have given up hope. There is hope," she said in the press release.
After takes a three-month hiatus from her show due to health problems, Williams went back on air, blaming her years of drug use for her current condition. "Crack is wack," she said. "I was a mess… killing myself. I realized I am a walking addict. You can't just clean it up and stop it. I wasted a lot of my life burning my insides. You never know when it can pop up. I constantly have to watch the inside of my body because of hard partying, just a mess."
She explained that though she was only supposed to be off work for two weeks for Christmas, she began experiencing thyroid problems towards the end of her vacation. "Well, they're still adjusting my meds. If you don't know about thyroid disease, it's a lifetime thing. It can really screw you over," she said.
RadarOnline.com readers recall that months before her hiatus, Williams scared fans with her slurred words, bizarre facial expressions and fainting crises. Every time, she brushed the incidents off, blaming her odd behavior on exhaustion, menopause and pain meds.
Though fans speculated her sudden disappearance from the show also meant there was trouble in paradise between her and husband Kevin Hunter, 46, Williams gushed about him on a recent segment and denied allegations he cheated on her.
"He is my best friend, my lover, he's all this and he's all that," she said of her longtime partner. "I know what you've been saying, and I know what the streets have been talking about."
