Macaulay Culkin is still struggling with his addictions, an insider told RadarOnline.com. Formerly accused of being a heroin addict, the former child star is now drowning his sorrows in alcohol and methadone, the insider claims.

The disturbed 35-year-old actor is using the dangerous drug methadone as a substitute heroin "fix," an insider told RadarOnline.com. Culkin's reps have strenuously denied claims of his heroin use in the past.

"When Mac wants or needs to get sober, he goes for the occasional fix of methadone at Mount Sinai Beth Israel hospital in New York City," a close source said. "As far as I'm aware, he has yet to enroll in a full-time program meant for long-term sobriety. Unfortunately, using methadone randomly and not in a controlled environment has its own inherent risks, in that it can also be addictive if abused."

Culkin, who remains famous for playing Kevin McCallister in the 1990's hit Home Alone, appeared frazzled while navigating a busy Manhattan street on March 30.

"If you saw Mac, you'd think he was a homeless bum or a drifter," a source said. "He certainly looks the part!"

Insiders also revealed that Culkin is drenching his days in alcohol! "Mac's a regular at Warehouse Wines & Spirits located on the same block as his apartment," said the source. "He likes a variety of booze, and goes in there at least twice a month to buy alcohol by the case."

According to the insider, Culkin is so paranoid that he hides out at his New York City home most of the time. And the actor even admitted to his unusual lifestyle in an interview: "I'll take walks at two or four in the morning, because there's nobody out on the streets and it's easy for me to go unnoticed."

As RadarOnline.com previously reported, Culkin's 2012 descent into drug hell began when he reportedly spent a whopping $6,000 a month on heroin and the powerful prescription painkiller oxycodone.

Although his rep vehemently denied the claims, Culkin was caught looking disturbingly frail that February. In August 2012, he was also seen vomiting outside the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles.

At the time, The National ENQUIRER reported that the former child star had turned his NYC apartment into his own private drug den, where he would get high while home alone or partying with his junkie friends.

Later that year, Culkin nearly overdosed in an effort to kill himself, sources claimed. His reps denied the allegations.
