The duo's matrimony began to go down hill a year after tying the knot. Distance was what first took a toll on their relationship. City boy Theroux Theroux spent most of his time in the couple’s New York City penthouse, while Aniston spent most of her days in their California mansion. While they had things to fix, they never get time alone.
After having spent two months apart, as RadarOnline.com exclusively reported, Aniston, 49, and Theroux, 46, had a massive blow up at their Bel Air mansion on December 14, 2017. Sources revealed Aniston attacked Theroux as their two-year marriage exploded in an ugly swirl of jealousy, lies and cheating! The couple erupted in a face-to-face showdown. While not physical, the vicious bust-up at their Bel-Air mansion on Dec. 14 was “the fight to end all fights,” according to insiders — who saw a furious Justin storm out and head to a luxury hotel. “It was a stupid argument — the kind of disagreement most couples have. But this time things spiraled out of control, and Jen flipped out,” a source tattled to RadarOnline.com.
A few weeks after the blowout, the had a failed attempt to mend their relationship by going on a "romantic" Mexico vacation together. But they were joined by another couple and seemed icy towards one another in shocking photos.
Did cheating get in the way? As her marriage spiraled toward a $225 million divorce, Aniston has turned to hunky ex-boyfriend Gerard Butler for comfort, RadarOnline.com reported exclusively. She dated the rugged Scottish star from 2009 to 2010. “Jen has been leaning hard on Gerard as her relationship with Justin continues to disintegrate!” a source close to the former Friends star told RadarOnline.com. “Jen and Gerard reconnected a few months ago when she and Justin first started butting heads,” said the insider.
What's more their troubles were also magnified by Justin’s wandering eye. “Those closest to Jen have known she struggles with his flirting with co-stars,” one source snitched, noting Justin’s “closeness” to foxy Oscar winner Emma Stone on the New York set of Maniac.
Most recently, the couple spent Jen's 49th birthday apart.
The actress hosted an elegant bash surrounded by her close friends in Malibu, California to celebrate her life. Her husband, Justin Theroux, however, was nowhere to be seen.
But signs of a marriage trouble were evident before that. “They’ve been skipping out on their holiday traditions, and there annual tree trimming party was mysteriously canceled this year. Jen’s circle is assuming that’s because they’ve been having marriage problems they’re spending a lot of time apart,” the source said before they announced their divorce.
The couple confirmed their split on February 15, 2017 and released a joint statement: “In an effort to reduce any further speculation, we’ve decided to announce our separation. This decision was mutual and lovingly made at the end of last year. We are to have friends who have decided to part ways as a couple, but look forward to continuing our cherished friendship. Normally we would do this privately, but given that the gossip industry cannot resist an opportunity to speculate and invent, we wanted to convey the truth direction. Whatever else is printed about us but is not directly from us, if someone else is fictional narrative. Above all, we are determined to maintain the deep respect and love that we have for one another.”
The Bad Bosses star and Theroux tied the knot in August 2015 in a private ceremony at their Bel Air home.
This was Aniston’s second marriage, her first, to Brad Pitt, ended shortly before her birthday in 2005 after he started a romance with Angelina Jolie.
