Chevy Chase, 71, looked markedly heavier at the Saturday Night Live 40th Anniversary event on February 15. The veteran actor appeared to have a puffier face and a rounder body and Dr. Ashkan Ghavami, who has not treated the actor, told RadarOnline.com that he was "alarmed at what I saw last night. I doubt it was just weight gain."

Dr. As, a California Board-certified plastic surgeon and Voluntary Assistant Clinical Professor at the David Geffen UCLA School of Medicine, said it appears Chase's shocking appearance could be a result of cushing face – which is a syndrome that can develop after taking steroids for a lengthy period of time. "Steroids or some kinds of medication can cause bloating. There seems to be a buffalo hump on the back of his neck and it is ‘cushingoid' on his face."

The Community star does not appear to have "botched" plastic surgery Dr. Ghavami told RadarOnline.com. Even though he has not treated Chase, he said "his appearance could possibly be due to steroid administration. This can come from auto immune diseases or certain types of cancer. But it is unlikely purely weight gain."

"It looks like there is fat deposit all over, and he doesn't look like he is swollen from plastic surgery," Dr. Ghavami, who has not treated Chase, told RadarOnline.com.

Dr. Ghavami told RadarOnline.com that many diseases can hit "and doctors need to be aggressive with treatment." He speculated that Chase's larger appearance could be from "simple weight gain."
