Britney Spears' ex-husband Kevin Federline has gone to court to demand more child support from the pop star in just the latest battle of their long war. The couple, who married in 2004 and split in 2006 after having two sons, has never stopped fighting! Scroll down RadarOnline.com's gallery for more on how they've feuded after their split more than a decade ago.
Spears, 36, and Federline, 40, married in 2004 in a surprise ceremony with only about 30 guests looking on. They quickly had boys Sean, now 12, and Jayden, now 11, but the marriage didn't last long. Dancer KFed discovered that he was being dumped by the "Baby One More Time" singer via a text message to his BlackBerry in 2006. He later told PEOPLE he was "completely blindsided."
The pop star slapped Federline with divorce papers on November 7, 2006, citing “irreconcilable differences.” After being served, Federline responded with his own claim for sole custody of their children, with visitation rights for Spears, spousal support, and legal fees and costs. Later, Spears admitted she hadn't tied the knot with Federline for true love, saying in a documentary, "I think I married for the wrong reasons. Instead of following my heart and doing something that made me really happy, I just did it for the idea of everything."
Amid her divorce and custody battle, Spears started partying hard. She then hit rock bottom, shocking the world by shaving her head at a hair salon in Feb. 2007. Spears and KFed's divorce was finalized in July 2007, but they were still fighting over the custody arrangement. He later said, "I didn't know how much power Britney had. That really scared me."
As Us Weekly reported, after Spears was charged in a hit and run in September 2007, she was banned from driving with her children, but did it anyway. She also took her boys out of state without the court's permission, and by October 2007, a judge granted Federline primary custody of their kids.
It was a big victory for Federline in Oct. 2007. A Los Angeles judge, citing Spears' drug-and-alcohol-fueled lifestyle, ordered Spears was ordered to relinquish custody of her children to her ex-husband.
But the battle continued. In January 2008, Spears refused to turn over the children to Federline's representatives after a visitation at her home, locking herself in a room with Jayden. Authorities intervened and the star was then locked in a psych ward! The following day, Spears's visitation rights were suspended at an emergency court hearing, and Federline was given sole physical and legal custody of the children. The "Toxic" singer was soon released from a 5150 psychiatric hospital hold, but the court placed her under temporary, and later, permanent conservatorship, of her father James Spears and attorney Andrew Wallet.
Federline gave his boys by Britney a new stepmom in 2013, when he married former volleyball player Victoria Prince. They had two children together; did that put more of a squeeze on Federline's finances?
In Feb 2018, the former dancer and sometime reality show star demanded more child support from Spears in a court filing. As RadarOnline.com has revealed, in court papers, Federline claims that Sean and Jayden live in near poverty with him in a tiny rental home.
Federline is asking that his millionaire pop icon ex-wife pony up more money to him in child support via court papers; he wants Spears to reveal her true income. While he has very little to offer his boys, the kids live like kings when they’re visiting Spears, Federline alleged. He claimed he has no savings or assets whatsoever, and his wife Prince does not bring in any income. Federline reportedly receives $20,000 a month from Spears in child support for their two sons now. Though Spears cannot have full custody of the boys while under her dad’s conservatorship, “she absolutely will not allow Kevin to take advantage of her,” a source has told Us Weekly about the fierce money wrangle.
