Savannah Guthrie reacts after a security breach disrupts the 'Today' show studio and raises concern.

A frightening scene unfolded at the Today show on July 16 when a man slipped past security at NBC's Rockefeller Center studios and allegedly lunged at host Craig Melvin while hurling a racial slur, leaving beloved anchor Savannah Guthrie "shaken," sources told RadarOnline.com.
The alarming security breach came as Savannah continues to grapple with the disappearance of her mother, Nancy Guthrie.
Scare Reopens Old Wounds

"She's still shell-shocked, and will be for a long time," said a source. "A scare like this just amplifies everything again. People say she had just left the studio when it happened, but apparently the incident still had a profound effect on her.
"Imagine if she had been there."
Savannah's 84-year-old mother vanished from her home in the upscale Catalina Foothills area near Tucson, Ariz., on Feb. 1, 2026. Family members raised the alarm after she failed to appear for a scheduled church livestream and could not be reached.
The FBI has since offered a reward for information leading to Nancy's recovery or to the arrest and conviction of those responsible. Yet nearly five months later, no arrests have been made and no suspects have been publicly identified.
Meanwhile, the man accused in the Today incident – Andrew Truelove, 41 – was apprehended. Carrying a backpack, he reportedly made it to a staircase inside the building but never reached Studio 1A, which is protected by additional badge-controlled security checkpoints.
According to law enforcement, Truelove first asked for longtime weatherman Al Roker before confronting Melvin. Security quickly subdued Truelove, who was taken into police custody.
Security Scare Shakes Today

"Thankfully, nobody was hurt," said the source. "But people are definitely on edge. He could have had a bomb or a gun or a knife."
Savannah, 54, had announced on the air just before the incident that she would be stepping away from Today temporarily to film a new Wordle game show.
"Guys, I'm headed over to shoot Wordle over the next few weeks," she said. "We're going to shoot the whole season, and we're super excited."
"I can't wait for everyone to see it," she added. "It'll probably air in the new year."
"The change of scenery will be good for her," said the source, "especially after this happened."
NBC Reviews Security Protocols
NBC said it was reviewing security protocols following the 'Today' studio breach.
NBC said in a statement: "There was a security incident this morning at the Today show studio. An individual entered an unauthorized area in a vestibule near Studio 1A. Today is cooperating fully with law enforcement as they investigate the matter.
"NBC and Today take the safety and security of our employees, talent, staff and guests extremely seriously," the statement continued.
"We are reviewing the incident and our security protocols and remain committed to providing a safe and secure environment for everyone who works at and visits our studios."

A protection order requires Truelove to stay away from Melvin and Al Roker.
Truelove was charged with burglary in the third degree as a hate crime and menacing in the third degree as a hate crime. A full temporary order of protection is in place requiring Truelove, who has pleaded not guilty, to stay away from Melvin and Roker.
"The defendant, as a hate crime, by physical menace, intentionally placed or attempted to place another person in fear of death, imminent serious physical injury, or physical injury," reads the complaint.
"When [the detective] stated to the defendant, that's what you wanted to get arrested for, the defendant replied, I always wanted to call a black famous person the N-word."
