Assistant Director Working On Alec Baldwin’s 'Rust' Was Fired From 2019 Movie After Gun Incident
The assistant director working on Alec Baldwin’s Rust —where cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was accidentally shot and killed —was previously fired from a film where another crew member was injured.
Dave Halls was the AD on set and the person who handed Baldwin the gun that contained “live rounds.”
He told investigators he believed it was loaded with blanks. Sources revealed the incident to Daily Mail who claim Halls has a past of trouble on sets.
In 2019, insiders say Halls was fired from the film Freedom’s Oath. The outlet reports a prop gun went off on the set which caused one crew member to seek “medical treatment.”
Rock Soul Studios, who produced the film, trashed Halls in a statement released to CNN.
They said, “Halls was removed from set immediately after the prop gun discharged. Upon wrapping production for the day, Dave Halls was officially terminated and given the specific reasons for his termination. Dave was very remorseful for the events, and understood the reasons he was being terminated.”

Others who worked with the assistant director in the past said he had a “flippant” attitude toward gun safety. Another said he treated junior crewmembers with disrespect and spoke down to them.
"He's really barbaric. Towards lower crew and workers, interns, pa's, mean and not well regarded. When producers are around, he doesn’t stray too far but when they aren’t he's really nasty,” one insider dished.
Investigators are currently working to figure out what exactly happened on the set of Rust. Crew members told police Halls picked up the weapon from a table that held three guns.
The other person in charge of the guns was the 24-year-old armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed. Halls and Gutierrez-Reed have yet to make public statements on the matter.
As RadarOnline.com first reported, Baldwin, who met with Hutchins husband over the weekend, fled New Mexico for the Hamptons. Sources tell us he is holed up with his wife and kids at their vacation home.
