Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin have split up after recently discussing marriage, according toThe Sun. The Coldplay rocker ex-husband of Gwyneth Paltrow, 42, told friends he is single again after his 20-month relationship with the Fifty Shades of Grey star, 29, ended last month.
Earlier this year Martin had reportedly bought a $5.3 million Malibu beach house to share with Johnson, the daughter of Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith. An insider told The Sun, "Chris and Dakota were very easygoing and always seemed really happy together. There was talk of engagement but now he says they have gone their separate ways, which has come as a real surprise to everyone."
Martin and Johnson's last public appearance together was in November 2018 at the restaurant Sushi Park in Los Angeles. Another source had predicted back then, "They will probably get married. It’s serious. Chris (likes that) she doesn’t thrive on the spotlight and is very understated."
An insider also told RadarOnline.com in 2018, "She’s said they’ve already talked about the possibility of getting married next year — they just want to see how they go traveling together for Chris’ tour first before they jump in too fast."
Martin's ex Paltrow became a laughingstock after, in announcing their 2014 split, she said they planned to have a "conscious uncoupling" after 10 years of marriage and two children.
The Shakespeare in Love star's attempt to "reinvent" the concept of divorce got heavy backlash.
But both of them moved on romantically. In March, Johnson was cited in a restraining order taken out by Martin against a stalker who kept turning up at their mansion. Martin said he was in fear or the safety of himself, Dakota and his two children Apple, 15, and Moses, 13, by Paltrow.
Before Johnson, Martin was linked to Jennifer Lawrence, 28, and Annabelle Wallis, 34. Showing his divorce was amicable, Paltrow and her new husband Brad Falchuk invited Martin and Johnson on their honeymoonin the Maldives. Paltrow called Johnson "a fantastic woman," whom she adores.
A RadarOnline.com source said Johnson was "desperate" to win over Martin's ex-wife while thinking about marrying him.
“Dakota is very serious about Chris and wants to settle down with him and be part of the kids’ lives,” said the insider at the time. "But she knows it will be a whole lot easier if she’s on Gwyneth’s good side!”
Now, however, the romance is reportedly over.
