Bradley Cooper and Irina Shayk stayed together through award season in a failed bid to help him try and win an Oscar, RadarOnline.com has exclusively learned.

Cooper’s A Star is Born with Lady Gaga earned him a Best Director Academy Award nomination, however, his relationship with the international model Shayk was in jeopardy even before the film’s accolades started rolling in.

“Once Bradley met Lady Gaga things were strained, but he always told Irina he was just acting and there was nothing going on," an insider revealed to Radar.

Though Cooper "really made an effort" with Shayk as the award season heated up, "he was spending all of his time with Lady Gaga," noted the insider.

Lady Gaga’s sexually-charged performance of her hit "Shallow" — which won the Oscar for Best Original Song — with Cooper at the Academy Awards devastated Shayk, who sat in the audience watching the pair's sparks fly onstage.

“Ever since then, Irina has not been able to trust Bradley at all,” a source admitted, adding that while Shayk was well aware that "things were bad" she still "wanted him to commit and get married and show her more affection in public."

Cooper refused, and despite their best efforts, he confirmed his split with Shayk in early June and she was spotted moving out of the Los Angeles mansion they shared with their 2-year-old daughter, Lea.
