Shannen Doherty is mourning the sudden death of her beloved friend and former Beverly Hills, 90210 costar, Luke Perry.
After learning of his passing on Monday, March 4, the actress voiced her sadness to PEOPLE, and reminisced on their years-long friendship.
“I am in shock. Heartbroken. Devastated by the loss of my friend. I have so many memories with Luke that make me smile and that are forever imprinted on my heart and mind,” Doherty, 47, said.
She also shared an emotional Instagram post, including a slideshow of photos of her and Perry over the years.
"Yesterday morning I got a phone call that devastated me. I’m struggling with this loss and am having a hard time with my thoughts. But, my heart goes out to his family and friends who were blessed by his light in their (and mine) lives. Processing this is impossible right now," she wrote in the caption.
Perry died this Monday at a California hospital surrounded by his loved ones. Days earlier, he suffered a massive stroke, and his brain was unable to recover. He was 52, and as RadarOnline.com exclusively reported, left everything to his two children, Sophie, 18, and Jack Perry, 21.
After Perry’s stroke, Doherty spoke to ET about his condition, saying she was still in contact with him, loved him very much, and was hoping for his speedy recovery. Hours later, the actor’s rep confirmed his death.

Doherty and Perry worked together for years when starring in 90210. They played young love interests, but the actress made it clear in her recent interview that their connection went far beyond their screen characters.
Though they drifted apart from some years after the show, they reconnected when she went public with her breast cancer diagnosis in 2015 and Perry reached out to her.
“There is a special kind of love one has for each other when you are experiencing the journey we did on 90210 and of course life in general,” she told PEOPLE.
Though the two were not signed up to appear in this year’s show reboot with the rest of their former castmates, Doherty said they were working on a project of their own.
“Luke and I were working on show ideas for us. We wanted to work with each other again and create something special and meaningful for our fans at this stage in our lives,” said the actress. “I will miss him everyday. Every minute. Every second.”
