Ellen DeGeneres romantic gesture for her wife Portia de Rossi hilariously backfired on the chat show host.
The pair was celebrating their 15th anniversary together and Ellen, 60, hired a plane to fly past their beach property containing the number '15' and a heart.
However, it wasn't until the plane flew past their beachfront home that Ellen realized that her touching message could not be read from ground.
"I can't see it!" one of the ladies can be heard laughing as the airplane roared through the sky.
The couple shared the moment with their fans as they posted the video to their Instagram accounts.
"Portia and I started dating 15 years ago today," Ellen wrote in her caption.
"I hired a plane to fly by the house with a banner that said 15 with a heart. I should have specified the size."
Portia, 45, wrote: "My wife surprised me with this for our 15th anniversary. Sometimes bigger is better...."
Portia and Ellen were married during an intimate ceremony at their Californian home on August 16, 2008.
Their union came two months after same-sex marriage was legalized in Los Angeles – philosopher Wayne Dyer officiated their wedding.
