"It looks like Tom made a lucrative offer the home owner just couldn't refuse," an insider revealed. "They made a handshake deal for all cash."

Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson have had their fair share of problems with their 28-year-old son Chet, a recovering drug addict.

But it seems the home that Tom's now buying may be a grand graduation present for their youngest son, brainy 22 year-old Truman.

"Tom and Rita are beyond proud of Truman, who recently graduated from Stanford University."

As RadarOnline.com readers know, eldest son Chet has a history of drug and alcohol abuse, and the family is currently fighting a court battle against a Los Angeles man who said Chet was under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol when Chet hit his vehicle on the freeway Feb. 13, 2015.
