Radar Told You First: ‘Roseanne’ Coming Back Without Barr!
Roseanne is back — without Roseanne Barr.
ABC announced a spin-off show tentatively titled The Conners’ without the lead actress after her explosive racist Tweet ended the show weeks ago.
As RadarOnline.com first reported, the network decided to continue the show with John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, Lecy Goranson and Michael Fishman.
Barr, an outspoken Donald Trump supporter, wrote a racist Tweet about Valerie Jarrett, a former Barack Obama aide.
“Muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj,” Barr, 65, wrote in a since deleted Tweet. She claimed it was a joke and that she was Tweeting while taking sleep medication Ambien.
The conditions of the spin-off show were reached by executive producer Tom Werner and Barr.
“I regret the circumstances that have caused me to be removed from Roseanne,” Barr said in the statement to RadarOnline.com.
“I agreed to the settlement in order that 200 jobs of beloved cast and crew could be saved, and I wish the best for everyone involved.”
Werner said: “We are grateful to have reached this agreement to keep our team working as we continue to explore stories of the Conner family.”
ABC ordered 10 episodes of the show, and planned to air it on Tuesdays at 8pm, the same time Roseanne aired.
Barr’s exit on the show was described as “a sudden turn of events,” ABC said in a statement.
“The Conners’ stories demonstrate that families can always find common ground through conversation, laughter and love. The spinoff will continue to portray contemporary issues that are as relevant today as they were 30 years ago,” the network noted.
Goodman, Metcalf, Gilbert, Goranson and Fishman released a joint statement, saying: “We have received a tremendous amount of support from fans of our show, and it’s clear that these characters not only have a place in our hearts, but in the hearts and homes of our audience. We all came back last season because we wanted to tell stories about the challenges facing a working-class family today. We are so happy to have the opportunity to return with the cast and crew to continue to share those stories through love and laughter.”
