Redmond O'Neal Accused Of Stabbing Man In Head, Causing Possible Brain Injuries

LAPD officials said a man with “red hair and distinct tattoos” randomly attacked five men on May 2 and armed himself with a glass bottle. Redmond allegedly punched one of the men and then fled the scene.

On May 3 at about 3:30 a.m., a suspect fitting O’Neal’s description approached a man leaving a store in the 3400 block of Overland Avenue. According to police, “the suspect became angry and repeatedly punched the victim in his head and threw him on the ground.” O’Neal fled the scene, police said. The victim sustained minor injuries to his head.

The more serious allegations involve a stabbing that occurred at about 5 p.m. on May 4. Law enforcement said a man fitting O’Neal’s description was walking near the Venice Beach Boardwalk on Speedway and Rose Avenues when O’Neal allegedly came across a man and stabbed him with a knife.

“Initially, the victim thought that the suspect (O’Neal) had merely ‘punched’ him in the back,” LAPD officials said in a press release. “However, once paramedics arrived, the paramedics discovered that the victim had sustained serious stab wounds to the left side of his body.”

At about 8:30 p.m., witnesses saw another man laying in a pool of blood near 4th and Rose Avenues with stab wounds to his face and body, police said. Nearby surveillance video captured a man fitting O’Neal’s description, who walked away from the scene shortly after the victim was found lying on the sidewalk.

According to sources interviewed by Radar, O’Neal allegedly stabbed that victim multiple times in the torso and head, causing possible brain injuries. O’Neal allegedly left blood evidence and fingerprints at the crime scene, which led authorities to identify him as a suspect through DNA, sources said.

On May 5 at about 4 p.m., investigators said a suspect also fitting O’Neal’s description brandished a folding knife at an employee of a coffee shop on Pacific and Windward avenues.

Detectives with the LAPD Pacific Area division presented their findings to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office on Friday and filed one count of attempted murder, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, one count of brandishing a knife and one count of battery.

O'Neal is already in jail and is facing serious felony charges, including second-degree robbery for holding up a 7-11 in Santa Monica on May 8 at about 3 a.m. Authorities said Redmond.

O'Neal also is facing other charges for the May 8 incident, including felony assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a smoking device, possession of an injection/ingestion device and , meth and heroin.

“After O’Neal’s arrest, the violent crime spree ended and Pacific Area robbery detectives found O’Neal strongly matched the description of the suspect in these crimes,” LAPD officials said in the press release.
