Just eight months after getting fired from NBC's Today show, Matt Lauer is secretly plotting his return to television!

Insiders spilled the onetime king of morning TV is convinced he can comeback from the sordid sexual harassment allegations that got him kicked to the curb Nov. 29.

"Matt and his people think if enough time passes, he will be forgiven," a source revealed.

"He believes the only thing he's guilty of was engaging in a consensual affair in the office," added the source. "His view is that he was unfairly caught up in the rash of #MeToo abusers and did nothing that merited getting fired."

Tellingly, Lauer has ended his self-imposed exile at his Long Island home and has been spotted skulking around NBC's Rockefeller Center studios in Manhattan.

"Matt's also been meeting with loads of his former producers , including Deborah Kosofsky — and Don Nash, who was also fired by the show," an insider said.

"He's trying to convince them to either help him return to Today— or come join him in launching his own production company."

Ratings for Today soared when Hoda Kotb moved into Lauer's anchor chair. But after topping the ratings for seven consecutive weeks, Today has slipped to second behind ABC's Good Morning America, and add-on anchor Megyn Kelly hasn't brought in viewers.

"Matt believes those numbers should be more than enough to convince the network to bring him back," the source said.

"Matt is certain he can work his way back to the top anchor spot in time. He is convinced he'll be back on TV by the end of the year!"
